Schools & Childcare

The Office of Dual Careers and Faculty Relocation works with academic families to find childcare resources and share information about schools in Chicago. Sarah Diwan at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club is available to advise families on childcare for children aged 0-5; please email Sarah at sdiwan@hpnclub.org. Dillan Siegler is available to assist families explore K-12 educational options; please email Dillan at dsiegler@uchicago.edu.

The University provides many childcare and tuition benefits including a free childcare referral service via Perspectives Ltd. to assist parents in locating and evaluating childcare providers that best meet their needs. The Baby PhD Childcare Network at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club offers parents a highly personalized child care referral service. Depending on family needs and priorities, Baby PhD can make referrals to daycare centers and nannies. The Childcare Network also offers professional mentoring and support to local childcare providers, maintains a childcare lending library, and sponsors an annual seminar series focused on best practices in early childhood education.

The University’s Family Resource Center publishes an annual Parent Resource Guide to schools and childcare centers near campus. The Family Resource Center also maintains two listservs: the Student Parent Market Listserv, where members can post children’s items they wish to buy and sell, and the Student Parent Listserv, a general list to share information about upcoming events. Another active parent email list is the Hyde Park Parent Support Network

The Academics with Children Network is organized by the Office of the Provost and hosts quarterly social events for faculty families. Please join the mailing list and Facebook group.
